About the prayer companions
What are comparable items on the market?
I have spent years using beautiful devotionals from amazing companies like Blessed is She. These Prayer Companions serve a similar purpose, while they are a bit different in spiritual depth & in more specific themes.
how do i use a prayer companion?
Prayer Companions do not replace the Bible; they are not full of reading material. Rather, they are full of Scripture references and guided questions therein. You open your Bible alongside your Prayer Companion and your own journal, and you use the Prayer Companion in a season to boost your prayer. When you've finished the Prayer Companion, you resume normal prayer with your Bible and Journal, more confident in your abilities to receive from Scripture!
How much do prayer companions cost?
No matter the length, each PC is $19.00. This does not reflect the amount of time and effort that went into crafting them. The price was chosen to be an accessible price point. Reading the Bible and feeling confident in praying with it should be available to all. In this same vein, I ask that you not share, reproduce, copy, or print multiples of the product to share. Please encourage all who want to use it to pay for their own PC, so that I am paid for my work. This is how I'll be able to keep costs low! Thank you in advance for your integrity here.
what comes in a prayer companion?
A Prayer Companion is a digital download available for you to print immediately. Each guides you through prayer, highlighting themes in the Bible for you to explore. They each are unique, but are full of 'extras' like book lists, Bible reference charts, audio meditations, and more!
When do new prayer companions come out?
You'll notice that a lot of the Prayer Companions are still in the works. They will be released as the Holy Spirit inspires me to write them. I also hope to have many guest writers to contribute from their experience of God too. Join my email list to get updates on the latest ones!
Can i do these with a group?
Yes of course! These PC's are designed for individual use, but with a little creativity, you can easily adjust them to be group-friendly.
I would ask that each individual group member purchase his/her own prayer companion, instead of photocopying or printing multiples from one purchase. This is an honoring and honest way to pay me for my work!
Look at the stars
God has given us promises all throughout the Bible, but do you know them? Are they in your heart and mind? Do you know how to bring them into your daily habits? This PC is for you to immerse yourself in God’s promises in Scripture, and to ask for God to reveal His Promises for you specifically. This PC also includes practical ideas for how to teach your children these as well. This PC uses Scripture from almost every book of the Bible, but largely focuses on the story of Abraham. Recommended to have highlighters, sticky notes, and a fresh never-before-written-in Bible for this PC.
Postpartum months
The early months after welcoming a baby are life-changing. When everything shifts, holding onto intimate time with the Lord in your daily routine is difficult. This PC moves with you, in your earbuds, in the car, in the rocking chair, or in the kitchen. It’s primarily a set of audio reflections and playlists to listen, reflect, and pray about parenthood and God’s love for his children. Recommended for a three-month period.
( Psst: This makes a great baby shower gift!)
my exodus
In the Exodus, God led his people from slavery to freedom. It wasn’t always pretty, but God knew what he was about. This PC is about your own exodus. Are you in a pivot point in life? Are you transitioning out of a relationship, job, state of life, or unhealthy habit? Meet God in prayer about it. This PC was formed around my own exodus from unhealthy habits on a physical level, but it can be applied to any kind of “transformation” season in your life.
Lent as bride
This PC is for my engaged girls! Prayer leading up to the wedding can be anything but romantic and deep, with all the craziness of wedding planning. This guide can help you find solace in prayer and meet Jesus as Bridegroom, as you prepare to be bride to your husband! It explores primarily the Gospels, Proverbs, Song of Songs, Exodus, Deuteronomy, and Numbers. Recommended for the Lenten Season, but applicable in any period leading up to the wedding!
a very jesse advent
This PC is more structured than the others. It is more content-heavy & feels like a “study” in some ways. It explores the main prefigurements of Jesus in the Old Testament to prepare your heart to receive the gift of Jesus on Christmas. It explores the stories of Salvation History, and the prophecies Jesus fulfills in his coming. This companion’s goal is for you to walk in the shoes of the Old Testament Heroes and understand the long wait for the Messiah.
the serious business of advent
An Advent Prayer Companion about death?! That’s right. One of the purposes of the Liturgical Season of Advent is to look forward to Christ’s second coming and our own deaths, and to prepare! That’s why so many of the daily readings of Advent are solemn warnings from the prophets. This PC is based off of the daily readings of the Advent Season, the second coming of Jesus in the Bible, and a renewal of heart. This companion’s goal is for you to arrive at Christmas, ready to give your heart as a gift to Jesus in a new (and serious) way. Recommended to pray with A Very Jesse Advent before this one
the theology of waiting
Consistently in Scripture, God makes his people wait before giving them what he has promised them. He reveals himself and his purposes in the waiting, if we are ready to look for him. This PC is for single women who want to be married, but are in a season of waiting. It can feel frustrating and isolating, and it can bring up an array of doubts about God and about self. Prayer can’t feel intimate and vulnerable if you’re not sure God even remembers you or has a plan for your life! Can it? (Yes, it can.) This PC is about God’s faithfulness and His Biblical pattern of the wait before the gift. It also dives into promises and truths for the woman who may begin to doubt the provision of God. Stories include Abraham, Jeroboam, the Israelites in the desert, Ruth, and Noah among others.
desert romance
Did you know that there’s a wedding at the beginning, end, and very center of the Bible? Did you know that the Mosaic Covenant was a Wedding Covenant between God and man? Can you see past the wild stories to see the romantic heart of God, pursuing his bride – pursuing you – all throughout Salvation History? The Bible is a love letter, Jesus is the bridegroom crying out for you to open your heart, and if you don’t believe me, you need this prayer companion. This PC is all about God’s love. It explores primarily the Gospels, Song of Songs, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Numbers, Revelation, 1 John, and other epistles. Recommended for the Lenten Season, but applicable to any time.
gentleness with jane and francis
This guide is based in Scripture, but heavily influenced by Saints Jane de Chantal and Francis de Sales, founders of the Visitation Sisters and patron saints of gentleness. Jane de Chantal started as a high-strung perfectionist mom of five…and ended as a patron saint of gentleness. This PC is for the woman who needs her help. Anger and shame are so closely linked that we hate to admit when this is our struggle. It dives into Paul’s letters, Jesus’ interactions with women, and is full of many practical prayer methods to chart, track, and “see” the battle we are fighting.
pregnancy highs and lows
This PC is designed for the mother struggling to pray during pregnancy. It is simple and covers only the book of Psalms, introducing them as a comfort to the mom experiencing highs and lows (much like the Pslamists do!) Explore all 150 psalms spiritually, and learn more about this popular book along the way.
dry prayer: a diy companion
This PC is different from the rest. This is designed for the woman who wants to commit to daily prayer, but is always frustrated that she doesn’t know what to pray with, she bounces between verses and spiritual reads, and everything feels a bit dry. Instead of serving as a new resource, this PC is made to empower her to make her own. Program your own prayer. Design your own Prayer Companions. This guide is less a Prayer Companion and more a Prayer Companion Builder.
The rosary and your heart
This PC is about the rosary. The beautiful traditional prayer of the Church, given to St. Dominic by Mary and the subject of so many saints’ devotions & miracle stories! Yet somehow, it seems hard to pray! Hard to relate to! Hard to commit to! Dry? Boring? Repetitive?
If you don’t have the relationship with the rosary that you desire, start here. This PC will guide you through Scripture, through personalizing your meditation, and through the story of St. Dominic. Your experience and perspective of the rosary is sure to shift and expand through this PC, and I pray that with it, you grow closer to Mother Mary than you’ve ever been before.
