The Bible timeline show
The ultimate Bible understanding show, in my opinion. Jeff Cavins interviews Bible pros on different pieces of scripture!

the art of catholic
A really solid Catholic podcast that explores all sorts of themes, including Scripture.

the road to emmaus
Dr. Hahn, the master himself, speaking about the Bible in his personal podcast! Each episode is sooo educational.

slaking thirsts
Two young dynamic priests based out of Cleveland, Ohio record their homilies for this incredible podcast. Every episode is spiritually rich, but my favorites are Fr. Pat's talks about Holy Week!

latte & laundry
Suzanne Bilodeau, author of the "She Loved Letters" book, has a sweet podcast geared for mommas. It's tender, rich, and full of spiritual goodness!

the jeff cavins show
Jeff Cavins uses his years of Bible studying and his personal prayer life to make reflection-style episodes about different passages of scripture. It's like Lectio Divina & devotional meditation!

the bible in a year
How could I not mention the podcast that really set the world on fire in getting into their Bibles?! It's a bit of a time commitment to do this for a year, but trust me - it'll change your life!

holiness for the working day
Possibly my favorite podcast to listen to. This is from an Arlington Diocese priest named Fr Searby - he is dynamic, powerful, engaging, and so profound. Plus - his voice could be a moviestar's voice. So epic - and great Scripture reflections through his homilies!

Pints with aquinas
Matt Frad's 'Catholic Famous' podcasts are known for their authenticity (he doesn't edit anything) and length (2+ hours sometimes!). He's hilarious, enjoyable, and has some awesome episodes on the Bible too!

Old Testament - great place to start!!
This is a fantastic place to start. Dr. Bergsma draws stick figures throughout the book – you have to see them for yourself. Old Testament has never been simpler!!
Bible Basics for Catholics by Dr. Bergmsa
New Testament - great place to start!
Bergsma is back with a second book full of illustrations & simple explanations. This is all about the New Testament, and it is AWESOME.
New Testament Basics for Catholics by Dr. Bergsma
"Next Level" dive into Old Testament
I know – it’s huge. Don’t panic! This book is amazing to work through slowly. I would recommend taking my course first (shameless plug haha) but once you have a working knowledge of the Old Testament, this book becomes less intimidating and SO fun!
A Catholic Introduction to the Bible by Bergsma and Pitre
Niche book on Jubilee - so good!
Dr. Bergsma did his entire thesis on the Jubilee!! This is such a cool read.
The Abiding Together Podcast has a great Lenten series in spring 2025 about this book to accompany reading it!
Jesus and the Jubilee by Dr. Bergsma
Dr. Hahn!
Dr. Hahn loves his puns – and his book is so lighthearted and easy to follow! He talks about all the covenants of the Old Testament leading up to Jesus. Great book!
A Father who Keeps His Promises by Dr. Scott Hahn
Dr. Sri!
This book is UNREAL! So good. All Catholics should read it. This and The Lamb’s Supper by Dr. Hahn are GOLDEN BOOKS to unlock your eyes to the Mass. Wow – love it!
A Biblical Walk through the Mass by Dr Sri
Msgr. Shea!
This book is an excellent walk-through of the four senses of scripture: literal, allegorical, moral, anagogical. It is so clear and practical and uses plenty of examples. I learned SO much from reading this!
Making Senses Out of Scripture by Msr. Mark Shea
The Cantata of Love
There are tons of commentaries on the Song of Songs, especially from the early church fathers. I can’t claim to have read them all, but I have read and been utterly captivated by this book! It’s a slow-moving book. You have to marinate in it. It moves line through line in the Song of Songs and it is packed will insights!
The Cantata of Love by Fr. Blaise Arminjon
Dr. Pitre on Mary
I think this may be the only book you’ll need on how to find Mary in the Bible. It’s SO thorough, but it’s very pleasant to read too!! I’d pick this up once you already have established an understanding of the Old Testament to get the most out of it!
Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary by Dr. Pitre
Dr. Pitre on Jesus' Romance
Wow wow wow – is this my favorite book about the Bible?? Maybe. Maybe!! It’s so deep and beautiful. It’s definitely accessible for beginners, but I re-read it after diving deep into the Old Testament, and I found so much more that I appreciated about it.
Jesus the Bridegroom by Dr. Pitre
Dr. Pitre on the Eucharist
Amazing exploration of the Mass and the Eucharist through the Bible. Dr. Pitre does it again!!
Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist by Dr Pitre
Bible project
A really engaging, colorful, fun site full of amazing videos with OUTSTANDING graphics that take you through the Bible. Be warned: these resources do not align with Catholic teaching, so they don’t have the deuterocanonicals, they interpret some of the New Testament (notably Revelation) differently than the Catholic church does, etc. Great as a “supplemental” but not “main” source of your Catholic Bible education.

ascension app
Ascension’s app is wonderful! It has a free plan, access to the Bible & Catechism, reflections for the daily readings, podcasts, and more! There are also paid plans. I love this app! (It also corresponds with the colors of the Ascension Adventure Bible!)
word on fire
Word on Fire is Bishop Robert Barron’s platform. He provides daily reflections on the readings and is a master of explaining Scripture. He has an app and a website, and I go there often to browse or seek answers!
dwell bible app
This is not a free app, but it does read the Bible aloud to you, which is amazing. Be sure to pick the author who reads “with apocrypha” (meaning the Catholic Bible with the 7 deuterocanonical books).
Real & true
An OSV-Innovation award winning site that makes awesome content about the Catechism’s teachings. A+!
